Sophomore synthesis project:
This sophomore project was all about synthesis, which is about taking ideas or theories or information and making something new with it. My topic this project cycle was organized crime in Latin American regions such as Mexico and Venezuela. For Global studies, I made a mind map on the differences and similarities of organized crime pre and post pandemic, as well as came up with a theory on how law enforcement will protect their citizens from a new uprising wave of cyber crime. For English, I decided to annotate poems and create an original one of my own that ties all three poems together. That was the new product I created for the synthesis part of the project. Finally, for art, I created a virtual art exhibit with Latin American artist's works to curate a new gallery that centers around many different influential Latin American artists, cultures and styles that defined their region. I wanted to learn about organized crime because of an episode of Buzzfeed Unsolved I watched about someone in an organized crime syndicate. I immediately thought it was very interesting, and I wanted to learn more about it. I learned that, because of the pandemic, that cyber crime is on a rise in Mexico, and a lot of violence happened between gangs within the first few months of the pandemic.
