Sophomore reasoning project
This project was all about the theme of reasoning. I decided to chose the topic of Somali piracy for this reasoning theme. For English, I read a book about a man named Michael Scott Moore who was held captive by Somali pirates for three and half years. After reading the book and taking notes, I then wrote a top five list of Michael's greatest mistakes he had made based on what I think were his biggest regrets through my notes on the book. For global studies, I wrote an essay pondering the question if Somali pirates are truly evil, or if they are just trying to protect their land. And finally, for art, I did a photography piece showcasing the beauty of the ocean and it's shore to provide reasoning as to why the pirates want to protect their beautiful land. I wanted to learn about Somali piracy because things that involve the ocean have always fascinated me since I was very young. I also wanted to read a book for this project cycle, and Michael Scott Moore's story was very compelling to me and I wanted to learn more about it. I learned many things throughout this project, but one of the most interesting things I learned to me was that Somali pirates are actually very religious, and most of them are not as violent as I had anticipated.
